A significant partnership between Saudi Arabia’s KSrelief and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been established to enhance food security in Yemen. The collaboration involves a $10 million project designed to assist vulnerable communities and bolster long-term resilience in the region.
Both KSrelief and the UK government have committed $5 million each to the initiative, which will be executed by the UN World Food Programme. The project will focus its efforts on the governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij, aiming to provide essential support to these areas.
Central to this initiative are conditional cash transfers intended to improve food accessibility and restore productive infrastructure. The scheme also aims to help families shift from reliance on emergency food aid towards greater self-sufficiency. Additionally, the project will incorporate vocational training, offer support to local authorities, and implement measures to enhance governance and sustainable management of community assets.
This agreement is part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian outreach, conducted through KSrelief, which has rolled out more than 4,400 aid projects across 113 countries since 2015. These efforts have amounted to over $8.5 billion, underscoring the kingdom’s commitment to global humanitarian assistance.
