China Seeks Equitable Trade Conditions to Boost Economic Ties with UK

During the recent 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, China has expressed its hope for the United Kingdom to provide a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises. This call comes as both nations aim to enhance cooperation and fortify their bilateral relationship. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the significance of the UK creating favorable conditions for Chinese businesses, which is seen as pivotal for the ongoing development of ties between the two countries.

Wang Yi highlighted the resumption of exchanges and cooperation across various sectors following recent high-level meetings between China and the UK. He stressed the necessity of maintaining open dialogue, expanding practical cooperation, and supporting multilateralism as the world faces increasing uncertainties. The discussions underscored the shared responsibility of China and the UK, as influential global players, in tackling worldwide challenges and advocating for a more equitable system of global governance.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper affirmed Britain’s dedication to sustaining stable and constructive relations with China. She remarked on the growing importance of reinforced dialogue and cooperation, especially as both nations navigate a complex international environment. Cooper also reiterated the UK’s established stance concerning the Taiwan issue, advocating for sustained engagement with China while addressing differences through dialogue.

The dialogue placed significant emphasis on economic and trade cooperation, with both countries exploring new avenues in emerging fields such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Cooper’s visit to China included meetings in Beijing and Shenzhen, focusing on expanding collaboration in these sectors. Analysts perceive this dialogue as a reflection of the efforts by both governments to convert recent political agreements into tangible outcomes while ensuring ongoing communication on global issues and economic collaboration.
