Iran has reported over 1,300 deaths since the conflict began. Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei was described by US officials as wounded, disfigured, and hiding underground. Tehran residents described a city of relentless explosions, power cuts, rubble-filled streets, and a population too fuel-starved to flee. European nations quietly sought safe passage for their commercial ships through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s warnings about striking Iranian oil infrastructure added another layer of uncertainty to global energy markets already severely disrupted by the ongoing crisis.
