Trump Posts Nuclear Ultimatum to Iran as Oil Crosses $100 for Second Time

Date:

President Trump posted what amounts to a nuclear ultimatum to Iran on Thursday as Brent crude crossed $100 per barrel for the second time this week — an escalation in rhetoric matched only by the historic escalation in energy market disruption. On Truth Social, Trump declared that stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is “far greater” in importance than the oil price crisis and pledged to never permit Iran to cross the nuclear threshold. The post arrived as the IEA announced the largest emergency oil reserve release in its history.

The supply disruption behind the price spike is massive. Gulf producers have cut output by approximately 10 million barrels per day — nearly 10% of global demand. The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed since the conflict began. Brent crude gained as much as 10% Thursday before briefly exceeding $100 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate climbed toward $96. The IEA released 400 million barrels from members’ emergency reserves, and the US announced a 172-million-barrel Strategic Petroleum Reserve drawdown.

Trump’s Truth Social ultimatum acknowledged that America benefits economically from high oil prices as the world’s largest producer. He then stated his real priority: preventing Iran — “an evil Empire” — from developing nuclear weapons that would destroy the Middle East and destabilize the world. He pledged unconditional commitment to this goal, asking for the public’s “attention to this matter.”

The ultimatum is backed by ongoing military action. Trump told reporters Wednesday that American forces have struck Iran with almost unprecedented force in history and are not finished. He also dismissed concerns about Iranian retaliation on American soil. These statements suggest the ultimatum is not rhetorical — it is an operational directive for the conflict.

The IEA and US reserve releases have provided partial market relief without resolving the supply crisis. As Brent crude crosses $100 for a second time, Trump’s nuclear ultimatum defines the terms on which the current global crisis will ultimately be resolved — or prolonged.
